Dr. C.N.R. Rao, renowned scientist of the age, gave away 100 copies of his book, ‘Learning Science,’ to 50 Amrita Vidyalayams spread throughout the country.
In a programme organized at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Cochin, Dr. C.N.R.Rao, along with Dr. Mrs. Indumathi Rao, addressed almost 700 students of Classes VII, VIII, IX of the 22 CBSE affiliated Amrita Vidyalayams of Kerala and about 100 Science teachers drawn from all Kerala Amrita Vidyalayams.
Br. Abhyamrita Chaithanya, the Chief Operating Officer of Amrita Viswa Vidya Peetham, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. In his interactive session, Prof. Rao asked the students take an oath to go for research rather than just opt for professional courses and to utilize the scientific knowledge only for the benefit of society.
Dr. Rao drew the analogy of the scientist who discovered Ammonia. While Ammonia can be used in numerous productive ways, it was also responsible for the production of the poisonous gas (Ammonium Sulphide), which killed lakhs of innocent people in Hitler’s concentration camps!! He also explained the lives of various scientists with the help of stories and power point presentations.
Dr. Indumathi Rao talked about ‘Learning Science’ with a 35 minute power point presentation. The entire audience thoroughly enjoyed the program. |
