Saluting the Tricolor

Amrita Vidyalayam Koilandy celebrated August 15th, Independence Day, this year of 2008. On the day, the staff and students renewed their oath of being dutiful citizens of the nation. The day started off with the children being addressed on the significance of the day. "It is because of many unknown, unseen people, filled with hope in their eyes of this rising nation that you and me stand today, happy and free.

"Life in its course may bring many gifts, many novel experiences and take you places. But we should never forget the un-payable debt that we have towards this land and its people.

"Remember those fearless souls who breathed their last, so that we can breathe free. This day is in celebration of the sacred land called India—in celebration of the spirit that this land inspires the world with: religious tolerance, non-violence, and the policy of non-aggression."

Following the address the National flag was hoisted ceremoniously, with the school band playing in the background. A salute was given by one and all present to the tricolor. Students and staff took the oath and once again pledged their loyalty to the Motherland. Following this, there was a march-pass by the students. Then the students gave a splendid drill display, moving gracefully and uniformly with each other. The day ended with the distribution of sweets among the children.
