Medical Checkup at AV Hyderabad

A team of doctors from the multi specialty hospital, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, visited Amrita Vidyalayam Hyderabad for the yearly medical check up of the students. The enthusiastic and amiable young doctors soon won over the children removing any inhibition the students may have had.

The team was greeted by tiny tots with flowers and smiles as big as their faces could accommodate. The atmosphere immediately became light when one child after receiving "her own" doc, innocently said, "Welcome...er...You won’t prick me with a needle like other bad doctors, right?"

The doctors, keen to know about any undue strain or pressure on the little ones, started chatting up with the students to make them open enough to confide everything. In no time, the children were seen actively describing their day and routine to the doctors during the physical examination.

It was amazing how the children bonded with the team of doctors, showing them their trophies and little scratches and bruises occurred during the course of play. Any ailment that the doctors noticed with the students was immediately communicated to the parents and a course of treatment undertaken.

After the check up was over, there was a counseling session by the doctors in each class for increasing the general awareness among the students about the importance of health, coping with pressure, and regular food habits, etc. This experience of a direct interaction with the doctors proved to be really useful for the students, who otherwise are, more often than not, accompanied by their parents during such check ups. It provided the students a chance to put forward and clear their own doubts, without any inhibitionthey would otherwise be hesitant to voice in the presence of their elders.

There was a shower of questions among the inquisitive students ranging from the common cold to coping with exam stress. The doctor’s answers were laced with humor and further encouraged the children to open up.

The doctors signed off saying, "Vital doses of jokes, pranks and bonding help overcome the occasional bout of flu and fever, perhaps as much as the medication. And for the sly cock who falls ill conveniently during exams, arrangements should be made for him to give the exam in the hospital itself!"
