As always, the year was started on an auspicious note with the performance of the Ganapathy pooja, a prayer for grace and guidance. Next the kids were greeted by their Principals, who reminded the students to be ever aware of the real purpose behind getting educated. Education is not just memorizing a few historical events or scientific theories or acquiring a degree, it is an unending process towards acquiring knowledge. Knowledge is an important tool that, when used with discrimination, leads us to enlightenment. And enlightenment is not a fixed target, reached which one is declared "Enlightened." Like education and knowledge, enlightenment is a continuous process throughout life.

The students were given orientation classes to focus and direct their minds back to academics. In these the students were drilled in simple mental exercises to ease out any restlessness and open their thinking. |
Tiny tots, deep in thought!

The exercises were followed by an interactive session wherein values were reiterated to the children once again. It was more of an exchange and voicing of views among the children, with the speaker gently guiding and nudging them along the topics they need to think over as they embark on this fresh year of schooling. |

Instructions delivered the fun way, AV Thalassery. |
Minds are at their best when young, when untouched by notions and ideas. This period of life is fragrant with innocence and a daring which questions concepts formed by the mind. This is when the eagerness to know wins over the ego’s fear of the notions of the intellect, and renders the world with fresh eyes. Amrita incessantly strives to utilize this precious stage in life to orient the children. The first lesson the children are taught is the purpose of education, so they have a natural inclination to learn, to absorb and implement, thereby revealing the whole meaning of education.
