Amrita Vidyalayam - Karunagapally
'A Galore of Activities'

Amrita Vidyalayam Karunagapally, a Senior secondary school, has been growing in leaps and bounds over the last few years. It is the Amrita Vidyalayam with the distinction of being closest to Amritapuri. Consequently, the ashram's influence has created extreme competition among the students for admission into its wake. No wonder this year saw the highest number of new admissions among all Amrita Vidyalayams.

Already, this has been an eventful year for students of AV Karunagapally. Here, we catch up on some of the activities undertaken in the school.

Guru Poornima

Guru Poornima was celebrated in the unique Amrita way. Bri.Bhavyamrita Chaithanya conducted the events of the Day. The day started on an auspicious note with the Guru Paduka pooja—the worship of the Guru’s feet. Following this, was the chanting of the Ashtothra Namavali.

Next, unique to the Amrita family, Bri.Bhavyamrita Chaithanya conducted the Matru puja. In this puja the students worship their mothers’ feet with reverence and gratitude for all the selfless service they render. During these occasions, Amrita unites the students and parents within a social gathering where they undertake cultural activities together. These days prove invaluable in strengthening the bond between the parents, children and the school. Following this was a session of Bhajans which was concluded with the distribution of Prasad.

AV Karunagapally celebrates World Environmental Day

AV Karunagapally celebrated World Environmental Day by introducing the Seed Program of Mathrubhumi daily. With this novel idea, the students and teachers of the Eco-Club planted Tulsi saplings whilst chanting the Tulsi mantra. Following this, the cleaning of the entire school premises was voluntarily undertaken (Shramdaan) by the club members.

It was sight to see the otherwise trim teachers wielding brooms and dustpans, going about tidying the place. So engrossed in the work were the students that, at a point when volunteers outnumbered the equipment, there was a race for brooms and dustbins as if they were hot steaming pizzas!!!

The staff and students then proceeded to make small strips of rose and jasmine gardens. Symbolizing the Amrita Eco-club, the staff wore a uniform sari of the color green on the day.

Balamrutam: Ayurvedic medical camp for the students

Ayurveda is an alternative medical therapy in existence from time immemorial. It is yet one more contribution of India’s ancient wisdom to the world. Modern medical therapies, though vastly effective, can fall short when the side effects and need for long term cures of ailments are understood. It is here, when the difference between ‘relief’ and ‘cure’ comes into view, that the system of Ayurveda gains prominence.

Instances are many, where discomfort is only alleviated every time it crops up in the practice of modern medicine. And a cure can seem too far away for the patient to apprehend. Ayurveda, the ancient system of medicine founded in India, has the distinction of being able to root out the cause of the illness, rather than just remove the symptoms, thus removing all chances of a relapse of the illness. Though it may take time to heal, the system has proven ability to heal much more effectively and without causing any other ill effects in innumerable cases.

Medical check up in progress....   Br.Sankar Chaithanya, Director, Amrita School of Ayurveda, addressing the students.

It is Amrita’s endeavor to bring our very own treasure-house of wisdom hidden in the depths of ancient India to the forefront. Amrita Vidyalayam Karunagapally held an Ayurvedic medical camp conducted by the Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amritapuri. Experienced doctors from the school conducted medical checkups of all the students. Combining the best of both worlds, the school uses technological advances in modern medical science such as diagnostic tests, medical tools and equipment, and employs Ayurvedic methods for healing.

Br.Sankar Chaithanya, Director of Amrita School of Ayurveda, an experienced doctor himself, counseled the students upon the differences and advantages in the various methods of healing. The day concluded with an interactive session between the doctors and the students, wherein the students put forth their many questions, ranging from cures for different ailments to career opportunities in the field of Ayurveda.
